It makes one laugh (albeit, i must admit, from a theoretical perspective) to see theories/advancements in mathematics take so long for the industry to latch on to get better results.
Ofcourse, one understands that investments, practical considerations play a big role in stopping theoretical advances into practice directly.
Here is one from the HP Quantum Sciences Research Lab.
Today, I was listening to Maarghazi Maha Utsavam on Jaya TV. Sanjay Subramaniam was the performer.
Frankly, if Carnatic music were the proverbial 'Karpooram' , I will play donkey! Nevertheless, I enjoyed the nature of the music after first laughing at Sanjay's 'baavams'. It was soothing and there was depth in it. This was no "instant gratification" music that we are so fond of!
The more interesting part to the lay man was the Kelvi Neram and Sanjay did well with some nice retorts. When asked something to the tune of "mettuku paatu or paatukku mettu" he said, "why ask me? i am not a composer. you must ask people like Thiagarajar, Shaama Sastry etc".
The next question was "Whether Carnatic Music would reach the layman?". He made a good point when he said (gist) ,"Isai enbathu oru nun-kalai. Nun endraale nutpam dhaane. Nutpam niraindha edhayume expertsaala mattum dhaan rasikka mudiyum".
