Two quotes & IR's show...

  • Music: Netru kaadhal kondu, indru kanavan kondu, Naalai adupiley vendhida aasai illai!

After some dormancy, in which I was thinking about 2 topics for blogging and then having dropped them, I just found something to write for now. Two quotes!

Wherever one is, there is always a gap between what one wants to do and what one is doing. True success arises out of minimizing this gap.

Whatever one does, there is always a bit of work that is quite boring. But without that, any work loses its credibility and importance.

IR's music show was absolutely superb. I watched only some parts. But great care had been taken to make it once-in-a-lifetime kind. There were spots when the orchestra didn't go to a certain note that was rehearsed. IR stopped them and said, "Ivanga munnadiye rehearsal pannaalum parava illa. Go to the right note" and guided them till they played it right. Wah! The outcome was extraordinary! It also dug up some songs that weren't my favourites and made them extraordinary!

It is easy to see why we miss so many good things. With so much information overload these days, we simply, don't listen. That's why it becomes imperative for creators to showcase their work which IR did in splendid fashion interspersed with his experiences with each song. Especially, that Graamiya song was fantastic. I liked the way IR interspersed it with explanations about various stages in the life of a rural person and appropriateness of the lyrics. It showed why lyrics were crucial in the whole setup of music for cinema. (Contrast it with current music and shows why we still love the oldies)

There were many such interludes with singers, writers and directors. There was one spot which many wouldn't have missed. It showed that IR is afterall, a human. Yuvan and Karthik were singing "Chinna Kannan Azhaikkiran" with some modern rock added to it. (It did sound lovely) Karthik probably sang to add weight to the song since Yuvan is not a pro. But you know Karthik is a kind of a bubbly singer who dominates with his voice. 3 to 4 times, IR stopped Karthik in what I saw was a little rude fashion. Probably Karthik doesn't care. But it doesn't augur well for such a genius. It is natural for a parent to showcase their child's talent. But it could have been managed in a better way, probably instructing Karthik beforehand that he wants to showcase Yuvan's style of singing. But it was nice to see IR saying to his son, "Yuvan. Enna normala paadura? Un stylela 'Chinnna Kannnnan Azzhaikkirraannnu' padu".

Jaya TV played which had telecast it for three sundays finished it with a fitting "Raja... Rajadhi Rajanindha Raaja!" from Agni Natchatthiram. I am still mouthing the same. Tish. Tish. Tu Du Tu. Tish Tish... Tun Du Tu Tun Tun Tun Tun... Raja... Rajadhi Raajan indha Raaja..."

Endrum Raaja!
